Understanding and implementing the positive behaviour management strategies developed by Team Teach has transformed ways of working and culture in a wide variety of workplaces and settings: in education, adult services, health and social care, and beyond. We equip individuals and teams to turn challenging situations into learning opportunities, creating more positive practices and relationships.
Our aim was to raise the profile of Mental Fitness amongst the staff and improve their self-awareness and skills for positive mental health, which everyone could access whilst working from home.
The Mental Fitness Course was easy to access and the psychology information easy to understand. It helps focus positive thinking and the idea that a person is in control of what happens to them to a greater extent than they may have originally thought.
Carolyn Hughes, Assistant Head Teacher, Meadowside School
The phone call prior to the training helped to tailor the content to our needs and really focus on the children and young people that we support specifically. The trainer was very attentive and approachable throughout the training. It was also evident that he had researched the charity and the services that we offer and made sure that he linked and emphasised our practices with the theory of Team Teach.
Overall the training met the needs of the staff attending, whether they had completed Team Teach training numerous times before or had no experience/ knowledge of Team Teach.
Sara Filer, Team Leader, Serennu Children's Centre
The course was excellent. The two facilitators were truly excellent and, along with imparting the knowledge we needed for the course, the style it was delivered in was perfect. We of course would like to train up more of our staff.
Paul McGrath, Deputy Head Teacher, St Thomas CE Primary School, Oldham
Our team liked the following aspects of the app; well explained concepts and easy to understand material, additional resources makes the app a great resource for teachers, and having the exercises on an app is useful so they can be listened to anytime.
Victoria Dawn, Wellness Lead, MacLachlan College, Ontario
The Mental Fitness app is something teachers can use to increase their own self-awareness and positive mindset which, in turn, will allow them to better support the mental fitness of their students.
Victoria Dawn, Wellness Lead, MacLachlan College, Ontario
At MacLachlan College, I lead our Wellness Team and we integrate a variety of initiatives that positively impact our students’ whole school experience. We saw this as an opportunity to complement the supports we already have in place. What is different about the Mental Fitness App is the primary focus is on teacher wellness. By ensuring that staff are more aware of self-control techniques, they are then better able to support students.
Victoria Dawn, Wellness Lead, MacLachlan College, Ontario
Thank you for organising the training, we enjoyed the training very much.
We booked this training to be fully aware of all the behaviour management strategies we can use to de-escalate all the situations we have to deal with in school on a daily basis. We chose Team Teach because we heard many positive things regarding the training and the core principals of the training matched our behaviour policy.
It has supported our staff to de-escalate behaviour situations. We liked both the theory and the practice of Level One - the mix of the two was great.
The course provided confidence, instilling the correct behaviour management, ethos of the programme. We recommend this course, it was very helpful and catered to our needs.
Gina Barnes, Vice Principal, Harris Primary Academy Benson
The switch to Team Teach this year has really complimented our holistic approach to positive behaviour support at Abbot’s Lea School. The senior Team Teach trainers have provided an extremely personalised approach that has helped us to consider how to best meet all needs at our school, with a clear focus on reducing risk and restraint. We have been able to use some of our own case studies during training, to plan for better support and positive change.
A Team Teach 12-hour course was delivered to all staff in September, and the feedback received from that course was fantastic. Our school has adopted and embraced the new consistent approach to behaviour support well, using the help-script to offer support to colleagues and students.
It should also be noted that the service we have received from Head Office, in relation to booking courses, has been overwhelmingly positive. We never have to wait for long to hear a response, and we have felt as though the advisers and trainers have really taken the time to understand and meet our needs as an organisation.
We are still in the early stages of using Team Teach after historic use of an alternative approach, but we have felt well supported by the materials that are easily accessed from the Team Teach website and the support available from senior trainers.
Micah Grimshaw, Head of Autism Research and Development, Abbot's Lea School
We wanted to ensure that staff were well equipped to effectively handle children’s challenging behaviour, by supporting them with strategies that would enable them to prevent unnecessary escalations of behaviours that could result in harm to the child or others.
Some of our staff have received Team Teach training before and the feedback from these sessions was very positive, so we used Team Teach again.
The course has supported us with strategies that can help us to ensure that children and staff can be kept as safe as possible. It has also given us the opportunity to forward plan and consider potential ways to prevent undesirable behaviour.
The course is of very high quality. The trainer was very open and approachable, he listened carefully to everyone’s needs and expectations and made suitable adaptations to ensure that the learning was as relevant as possible to all attendees.
By completing this course, we’re more equipped to deal with physically challenging behaviour, ensuring that both the child and I stay safe and unharmed. It has made us reflect deeply on scenarios where behaviour has escalated and consider whether there is anymore, we could have done to calm the situation/prevent this. It has also made us reflect more deeply about the wider context of the children involved.
I’d recommend this course to other schools because the course is child-centred and ensures that behaviours are looked at as a form of communication. It encourages participants to consider things from the child’s perspective and then reflect upon actions.
Thank you!
Vanessa Seehra, Early years learning leader, Highlands Primary School
We’d undertaken Team Teach training before and knew it’s benefits. We needed to bring our staff team up to speed on Team Teach techniques, so that they were better equipped to deal with challenging behaviour.
The training addressed our objectives well - staff feel more confident and workers in charge can lead by example. The Level One course provided a good mix of legislation and holding techniques.
Holding has reduced because staff have used more diversion techniques, staff confidence has increased and there’s a better understanding between team members.
I’d recommend this course because it gives staff a grounding and confidence to be better placed to deal with behaviour that challenges.
Paul Funnell, Disability Youth Service Lead Manager, 0-25 SEND Service, Education and Youth Engagement, Croydon Council
We wanted to enable our school to have wider staff who have the knowledge and training to deal with situations in the appropriate manner. We found Team Teach Level One via a Google search, which had the availability we needed.
By completing this course more staff are now aware of their responsibilities and actions towards children who may need attention. The confidence of staff in dealing with such situations has also increased.
It was a good quality course incorporating the situations that are relevant to our own school and children. We liked the honesty of the trainer and how she was able to link it to our school and needs.
Our school has benefitted from giving our staff the confidence, knowledge and understanding of behaviour.
We would be happy to recommend this course, from the booking procedure to the training day, the knowledge and understanding of the trainer to how much all the staff attending gained from the training. It was a smooth process and informative for all who attended, even those who had previous knowledge and training.
Catherine Askham, School Business Manager, Oughtibridge Primary School
The two-day Team Teach training has been described by my staff as “the best training we have had in a long time”. The training helped staff to come together as a body to support each other and it really enhanced our de-escalation tactics. The facilitator was outstanding, she inspired and motivated the staff with her delivery, and I would highly recommend Team Teach to schools.

As a Deputy Head Teacher with 20+ years experience of de-escalation and physical intervention systems within an SEMH setting, both in the UK and the USA, I was struck straight away by the balance of the Team Teach program. I was impressed by how clearly and concisely key concepts such as the balance of legal information and psychology, the emphasis on understanding behaviour as a communication, and explaining the biomechanics in the physical techniques were communicated throughout the training. I have trained in other settings, roles and systems over the years and was impressed with how Team Teach continue to evolve their course offerings to keep up to date with best practice techniques and guidelines.

Team Teach is a tried and trusted package which we have used for many years in our SEMH setting. It encompasses everything our pupils need; from low level de-escalation in the classroom, up to diffusing high levels of aggression using techniques that are well thought out. The course deliverers understand the behaviours we deal with and are able to speak from first-hand experience, which only adds to the integrity of the course content.

I have been a Team Teach trainer for 14 years. During that time in Coventry we have developed from a small group of trainers to a large cross service group comprising a schools team, and both adult and children’s social care. Training has been delivered in a wide variety of settings, using cross service working, which has enabled Coventry pupils to have consistency of approach across schools, alternative settings, and adult care. Reviews of Team Teach training are always positive, focussing on how helpful the de-escalation element is. I am proud to deliver training that is so highly respected, and has service users at its heart. As a trainer, I am comprehensively supported by George Matthews, the Founder, and the Senior trainers. They are always available to give informed advice, rooted in experience and a great depth of knowledge and experience.

As of June last year, I secured my first headship at a PRU for 5 to16 year olds called EOTAS in Eston, Middlesbrough. It was a provision in crisis with regards attendance, behaviour and leadership. We have been on a fantastic journey and were awaiting OFSTED practically since I started! I implemented Team Teach to all staff as of October 2017 and I spent my first 6 months visible in the provision promoting positive relationships and challenging negative behaviours. The impact of Team Teach has transformed the behaviour in the provision and criminal damage and the rate of exclusion are unrecognisable since I took over. (2016-2017, 64 pupils fixed term excluded for a total of 373 days. 2017-18, 2 pupils, 3.5 days). All this positive work resulted in a 'Good' OFSTED result on 20th March 2018! much to the delight of the LA who never believed we would make this in such a short period of time. I believe that Team Teach has played a significant part in securing the good OFSTED and vindicated my reason to continue my instructor’s licence and implementing it in the first place!

Many parents have asked for support with managing their child’s behaviour. We have one family who was awarded some Continuing Healthcare (CHC) funding to purchase support to understand their child’s behaviour. We had difficulty in sourcing a course and this course seemed to be the ideal solution. The family’s social worker also sent parents from other families attending another school.
As a school we currently use Teach Teach for positive behavioural training, so this course seemed to be a very logical progression. I think this course for parents is a good start to addressing our needs. The course was a good introduction to positive parenting. On the course parents discussed wanting more specific content relating to ASD and then a workshop approach to discussing specific issues
Overall, there was a very positive response to this course. All parent evaluations stated that their first reaction was “very positive”. They all rated the course as ‘very high quality’ or ‘high quality’.
The course benefits all parties involved:
• Parents feel supported and appreciated that we listen to their feedback when they ask for support.
• Pupils will benefit if there is a consistent approach between school and home in understanding and managing their behaviour.
• From a school perspective it is exciting to work in partnership with a training company who are an integral part of our work in school.
We’d absolutely recommend this parent course. It is key that parents understand that behaviour is a form of communication and that they need to understand their response.
Thank you for the opportunity to host this course at our school.
Helen Masters, Deputy Headteacher, Tettenhall Wood School
The training is essential for our school, promoting de-escalation techniques and communication in a calm and measured way. It promotes positive relationships, keeping the safety of children and staff at heart. The sessions are enjoyable as well as incredibly informative. I fully recommend this training.

I have been an Advanced Trainer in Team Teach for the past nine years.
Team Teach gives a versatility that I haven’t seen in any other system available. It helps us as an employer meet our legal obligations under Health & Safety to ensure our staff are equipped for their job, whether that be skilled in a range of personal safety techniques for our lone workers, to being skilled in a range of positive handling techniques for our Residential Services for Children and Young People, alongside the theoretical knowledge base to understand behaviour and use a range of de-escalation techniques.
For me the supportive website, access to video clips and only a phone call-away approach from Team Teach staff and Principal Trainers make this a very effective and user-friendly system, that I would highly recommend.
Martin Sweeney, Advanced Trainer and Team Teach Coordinator for Mid Lothian Council
In 10 years of teaching this is the first course that has provided me with a confidence for my safety, my pupils safety and a way forward for staff and pupils together to build more productive and positive relationships.

Team Teach training has provided 'Our School' with greater team work. Staff morale has become improved due to staff feeling that they are able to cope with situations that may arise in a positive, gradual and graded approach and they are able to safely de-escalate situations. They have a greater understanding of using non-verbal, verbal communications and other strategies concerning effective communication and a whole school approach has helped to make pupils and staff feel safer and supported.
Senior Teacher, EBD Residential School
I worked with disruptive and disturbed pupils for 18 years before receiving any formal training in physical intervention. Since having completed my training I am considerably more confident and no longer resort immediately to a prone restraint. As a Headteacher of a school for children with emotional and behaviour difficulties (EBD) and having now trained all my staff in the Team-Teach approach, I have significantly fewer recorded full-blown restraints and this is particularly noticeable in relation to prone restraints. Furthermore, the ability of all staff to make appropriate physical interventions has significantly increased their confidence to deal with situations… All staff now share the wider perspective and skills base and this better enables them to support each other and understand the expectations of them in difficult situations.

I've received really positive feedback from the colleagues I've had a chance to talk to about the training. Also, the interest shown in the trainers’ course has been extremely encouraging, which I think speaks volumes about people’s experiences across the two days. I look forward to the possibility of working with you again in the near future.

We had the great pleasure to join the Team Teach course in our Rehabilitation Center in Catania, Italy. It was so useful knowing how to handle aggressive behaviours; this kind of knowledge enables us to react without instinctive behaviours that could be dangerous not only for us but for the children too.
Ivana Vecchio, Administrator and Manager of the ABACADABA service, Catania, Italy
As a school, we chose the Level One training with Team Teach due to the company's excellent reputation and positive previous experiences. Quality CPD on de-escalation was a school priority and the training delivered this and more. The trainer was excellent and delivered the training in an interactive style and was keen to tailor training to the school context. If you are looking for training on de-escalation, deepening understanding on behaviour management and knowing how to hold and guide children safely (should that ever be required) then this training is perfect. We certainly plan on bringing Team Teach back to train even more staff.

We are an organization of parents of autistic children and we have among our main aims to contribute to the diffusion of the good practices dealing with education of autistic people. We hosted the Team Teach course (Level Two – 12 Hour) for the first time during March of this year and it has been an exciting and enriching experience. Our presentation of the course to the association supporters has been very welcome, so that starting from a request of a course for 24 participants we found ourselves asking for its extension to 36 people. The participants were mainly educators of autistic children working at school, in family and in some cases in dedicated centers. The course has taught them useful techniques to stop the aggressive attitudes of their students both against themselves and against their school mates. This is for sure an added value to their professionalism, that is particularly important for us parents of autistic girls and boys, because it helps them protect themselves as well as protect our sons. The pleasantness and the vitality of the teachers helped to make the course not only useful but also amusing. After this positive experience, our association has decided to add the Team Teach course to our list of the main events we want to periodically organize.
Organization Associazione Una Lanterna Per La Speranza Onlus, Lombardy, Italy
Team Teach was a wonderful training opportunity that provided our staff with new techniques and tools to manage most critical situations that can occur in our everyday schedule. The course was clear, engaging and practical and allowed our operators to become more confident and trained. Team Teach is an innovative professional experience that combines cutting-edge risk reduction techniques with other methods that become necessary to preserve the safety of both therapist and user. We are convinced that everyone who works in direct contact with people with autism should be introduced to such techniques.
Fondazione Oltre il Labirinto Onlus, Treviso, Italy
A pivotal characteristic of Team Teach is its global view of problem behaviour, in the context in which it manifests itself, with an important emphasis on structuring educational environments that: reduce risk, enhance individualized programming, support positive behaviour, but are also ready to provide, when necessary, a physical response that is safe and maintains an individual’s dignity. Our experience is that these characteristics are enhanced when applied within a wider behavioural analytical and functional framework to challenging behaviour. Since 2012, the hope that continues to guide the yearly scheduling of Team Teach training for our members is based on the awareness that this approach and the constant collaboration with applied behaviour analysts constitute the scaffolding for building safe, respectful and engaging educational environments. The experience of the trainers, their great availability and deep knowledge of the taught strategies make the basic two-day Team Teach course and the added third day on an applied behaviour analytic approach to challenging behaviour one of the most anticipated courses the organization offers in Italy.

Fobap Onlus (Psychodisable Assistance Foundation) of Brescia (Lombardy, Italy) has dealt with people with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders since the 1980s, both children and adults. To date, it takes care of about 450 people within day and residential educational services. From 2017 we have organised, on an annual basis, a Team Teach course for collaborators and for local operators. Team teach gives us the possibility, through a theoretical and practical training, to increase awareness about the risks connected to our clinical activity and at the same time to learn strategies to prevent behavioural crises and to reduce the likelihood of adverse events occurring. Team teach is an opportunity for operators of our educational services to discuss clinical practices, to share mutual experiences and, above all, to question techniques and strategies that are not giving positive outcomes or that carry risks for the user, for the worker or for the organization. For these reasons, our intention is to continue our collaboration with Team Teach in the coming years, so that this training becomes a constant appointment for our Foundation.

The course opened my mind to create a better way to educate my child.
Parent, London
It's great. I liked the part that explores where we have to understand ourselves first, then understand our kids to think about the best response at the end.
Parent, London
Amazing, loved the organic way it is lead, but still very structured. Great insights and felt there is still a lot more in this field.
Parent, London
Practical aspect of putting ourselves in the position and mind-frame of our children, so we can see the world from their eyes. Also, the self-awareness - having the time and space to think about my parenting style.

Clear strategies to use for situations. Would have liked this course many years ago! Increased my understanding from a child's point of view.
